So I finally got a chance to read this book on Evel Knievel. Over the years I have met many people who either worked with Evel or knew him. It's a must read . And it's honest. I had heard stories about him before and this book backs them up. As much as I admired him I knew he had a dark side. One time I met a man from Las Vegas that told me never to do business with him. I understand why he said that now.

WSBK TV-38 in Boston was a very special Television Station. The show "Ask The Manager" was a favorite of mine. Someone posted an entire episode of the show on youtube. Many of the shows from WSBK are lost forever.

About 2 months ago we went to some lawn sales again and found some incredible videos. It amazes me to find video of news from New England or Michigan at a Lawn Sale. We get tapes that sometimes have no labels on them . And sometimes we don't even find video on them at all. But you never know. Either way it's a fun thing to do. What's really fun is when they give them away .

Ed McMahon

I went to The Tonight Show in Burbank California back in 1988. Before the start of the show Ed McMahon came out and talked to the studio audience about the taping.He warmed up the crowd. I remember he talked to us like a friendly neighbor would talk to you. A very nice man and very down to earth. Now he and Johnny Carson are gone. It's sad in many ways. One of my favorite things I remember about the tonight show was Ed McMahon and Johnny Carson showing the new Christmas toys coming out that year. It was always funny because sometimes the toys didn't work as advertised. It's one of the lasting memories I have of that show. Ed McMahon will be missed.

The Munsters on DVD

I'm watching the classic Munsters shows with my kids . They love the show. It's hard to believe it only lasted two season. What's really incredible is how many shows they did in two years, 70 episodes!! Here is a video snapshot from a movie filmed in Maine in 1977 with Fred Gwynne . I met Fred back then and he laughed just like Herman Munster did. The Movie was called Captains Courageous and it was shown on ABC .

I ordered Star Trek on Blu ray today

I'm getting my first blu-ray disc this week. Star Trek Season 1. They did a good job with the new special effects and many who have seen it say it's worth the price. Only $65.00 on Amazon. Star Trek was an amazing show. It holds up very well today. I wasn't a huge fan of the Movies but I did enjoy a few of them. None of them were as good as the original series but Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Kahn came close .

Baseball Season

Look at how far we've come in the last 30 years. Instead of going to a baseball game I can sit at home in front of my 42 inch plasma and watch any game I want. I'm still amazed by that. Growing up we had a few choices on how to catch a game. One was in person . The other was the radio. Ken Coleman did the broadcast on Radio for the Red Sox when I was growing up. You were very lucky to get a game a week on Television. But nobody should complain about paying just over $150 for just about every game of every team .

I don't cry often when a Celebrity dies. But I did when Paul Harvey died Saturday. I grew up listening to Paul on WRKD in Rockland Maine. He was always interesting. I hope his son continues the program.

I grew up in Maine . Back then we only had a few channels. One day I was messing around with my parents TV and saw the UHF dial. I moved it around and found WSBK TV in Boston. It didn't come in all time but it was a great station to watch. Later we got Cable and it was added to our package.

I went to a local Lawn Sale last Friday and found a box with about 100 VHS Tapes in them. I paid $3.00 for the whole box. I didn't expect to find much. I was wrong. Old Orlando Video from the 1980's including footage from WOFL Fox . Some WFTV News Footage. And some old movies .

How many Blu-ray Disc do I own? Zero

Blu-ray is amazing. I love it . But I don't own one single disc. For years I have been collecting dvds and now my library is full of dvd-r disc and dvds. So will I sell my dvds and move up to blu-ray? No. What I will do is look at my budget and see if I can buy a blu-ray disc of newer movies that come out. The truth is the older movies look better on blu-ray but not that much better. My first purchase will be a pixer movie like Wall-e or even Terminator 2.

I have been looking for a good copy of this Animated Christmas Carol for years. It was shown on CBS starting in 1969. This version of a Christmas Carol was shown between 1969 and 1977, it aired only on CBS on Sundays around Christmas time. I found it on a dvd at a local store after years of looking for it.

The Online Adventures of Ozzie the Elf was shown only once on television in 1997 . Dan Castellaneta (the voice of Homer Simpson) did some of the voices in this.
Ozzie's a temp in Santa's workshop, but he wants to become a permanent helper, so he begins to make points by showing Santa how computers and automation can help production. But when the reindeers walk out, Ozzie's going to have to figure out how to get them back and the true meaning of Christmas.

W.W. And The Dixie Dance Kings is one of my favorite movies but it's very hard to find on Video. The Fox Movie Channel is going to show it on November 10th this year. Art Carney was great in this Movie. This might have been one of Burt Reynolds best movies. Jerry Reed wrote a great song for this movie called "Need a Friend" . As far as I know it has never been released on any album.

TV Guide was one of my favorite magazines to read growing up. The Fall Preview was only one issue back then . It was about double the size of the regular guide . During the 1990's TV Guide split the fall preview with 2 or 3 weekly versions of it. Here is one from my collection in 1975.

Saturday Night Live

I've found some time to watch some of my DVD collection of the Classic Saturday Night Live Show. Some of the shows are funny but it would have been much better if it was cut down to 60 minutes when they did the show back in the 1970's. I was surprised at how many bad skits they had compared to the good ones. One of my favorite shows was when Desi Arnaz hosted . Just about every skit was funny on that one show . And Saturday Night Live today has really lost it's way. It's just not funny anymore.

We went to Boston last weekend and had time to check out Fenway Park. The cost to go to a baseball game or a football game is expensive now. I subscribe to both the Baseball Satellite Package and the NFL Satellite Package . Some may complain about the price of these packages but it's nothing compared to the cost of one game.

Universal Studios Florida held Auditions today for My Family's Got Guts. This show will be on Nick at Night this fall. We watched some of the auditions today ."My Family's Got's GUTS" starts in August at Universal Studios in Orlando. Twenty half-hours and two hourlong specials will be produced.

How about a motorcycle for only $660 dollars ? This is a Hodaka Wombat 125cc Motorcycle shown on The Price in Right in 1973.
Hodaka was a joint Japanese and American company that manufactured motorcycles in the 1960s and 1970s.

Santa And His Friends WABI Bangor Maine

During the late 1960's and 1970's WABI in Bangor Maine showed Santa And His Friends during the holiday season in Maine. This was a special holiday treat for viewers in Maine and as a child I remember watching this . As far as I know none of the original shows exist . WABI did bring it back in 2004 for the holiday season. Here are some video snapshots from the dvd.

Jim McKay passed away June 7, 2008. I really miss Wide World Of Sports and now that ESPN and ABC Sports are a team it doesn't feel the same.

I remember growing up in Maine and watching The Honeymooners on WSBK in Boston. And I remember seeing the color shows because of the opening with the helicopter shot flying in to Miami Beach with the voice introduction with Johnny Olsen . It's a shame that Audrey Meadows and Joyce Randolph didn't appear in the color shows but the shows are still a must own for Gleason fans. Seeing these shows after so many years is great fun. I met Audrey Meadows at Universal Studios Florida when she was filming a spot for Nickelodeon Studios . It was one of the biggest thrills of my life.

Lawn Sales and Video collecting

When I travel I always check out lawn sales when I can. I always ask people if they have old video tapes they want to throw out or sell for a good price. I'm surprised at what I find. One man had over 500 recorded tapes and most of them he recorded in the 1980's. He gave them to me because he didn't think anyone would want them. I found some real gems on the tapes.

Harvey Korman 1929-2008

I never met Harvey Korman but I liked him on the Carol Burnett show. It's sad that Television doesn't have a variety show like The Carol Burnett Show on the air today. I have great memories of staying up late watching the show. Thankfully I have many of them on dvd.

We went to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull at Universal Studios Florida last weekend. It was awful. The digital effects were bad, the script was really bad, and parts of it looked like a video game.

Motorcycle Daredevil Cory Scott

I first met Cory Scott when he was a motorcycle rider for the Joie Chitwood Thrill Show . I gave him a Robbie Knievel T-shirt . We talked about stunts and daredevils. Sadly he was killed performing this stunt . He worked with Spanky Spangler and I know Spanky would never do a stunt that wasn't safe . Sometimes these things happen. Dale Earnhardt was killed in NASCAR so accidents happen .

Robbie Knievel jumped in Florida in 1990. This was over a year after his Caesars Palace jump. The race track was a dump but it was fun to see Robbie again. I invited him over to Universal Studios and he came over with the whole gang.

Went to see Robbie Knievel jump at Kings Island . This was the fourth time I have seen a Knievel jump. While Robbie Knievel is a better motorcycle rider then Evel ever was , Robbie lacks the promotional skills his father had. He put on a good show but his father was very good at talking to the crowd and building up the act.
